Capital Projects

Designing Project Finance Structures for the Mining Business Cycle.

CIM 2023 Capital Projects Symposium

Vancouver, B.C.

November 19 and 21, 2023

Mining companies fund project development with a financing package combining equity, debt, and possibly multiple forms of alternative finance. Competing financing packages may have substantially different costs, benefits, and risks due to each package’s distinctive mix of constant and variable cash flows. Dynamic cash flow modelling is a powerful tool that helps companies understand the economic benefits and risk trade-offs between financing methods and their aggregate impact of financing packages. This analytical approach allows financiers and mine builders to adapt a financing package to specific project characteristics so that challenging market conditions do not lead directly to financial distress and the benefits of positive market environments are largely preserved to equity. This presentation discusses the possibility of a financing package that fits the needs and outlook of project owners and mine financiers. Additional event information is available at: https://capitalprojects2023.cim.org/
